First couple of weeks in Bangladesh
Hi, friends and family!
Thank you all for your prayers and support for me over the last couple of weeks. I've made it safely to Bangladesh. It was quite a trip, but thankfully I made all my flights (and so did my luggage)!
After arriving, I got to jump right in to life at the hospital. It has definitely been a steep learning curve. But the other doctors and staff have really helped me figure out how things work here. One of my most common phases has been "well in the states I would..., but what do you do here?"
So now that orientation is over, I'm taking 2 weeks to do an intensive Bangla language course. Some days I think my head is going explode, but actually it is going really well.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks again for all your prayers and support!
Christel
Here are some pictures (not too graphic, I promise)!
This is my desk/office at the hospital. I have to wear a scrub dress over my scrub pants to work at the hospital due to the cultural dress code.
This is one of the ORs at the hospital. Here I'm doing a c-section. The surgical techs/first assists are wonderful!
This is one of my patients with her baby that I delivered.
This is one of my really sweet patients who was having horrible pain from endometriosis. Here she is after surgery.
This is a baby python that the gardeners found behind the hospital. That added some excited to our day!
No need for lawn mowers, we have cows!
Visiting in a Bengali home. She made an incredible lunch for us!
This is the view from my apartment at sunset. It overlooks the caul and rice paddies. So beautiful!
